SIMEC Infrastructure operates a portfolio of commercial ports, marine fleets and railway stock which provide shipping and logistics services to customers as well as supports the other GFG Alliance members.
In the United Kingdom SIMEC Shipping owns and manages three ports - two in Newport, Wales and one in Blyth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne - and one in Whyalla, South Australia.
The UK ports operated by SIMEC are all equipped with heavy duty gantries which enable the efficient loading and unloading of steel and other products. The port in Whyalla serves SIMEC's haematite and magnetite iron ore mines as well as the Liberty steelmaking facilities in the same location. The facility handles both the loading of vessels with export bound ore, as well as the inbound handling of raw materials, storage and blending of iron ore.
SIMEC also has railway stock which transports raw materials and goods to various manufacturing locations in the UK as well as iron ore products from its mines to the Whyalla port.
